I never imagined anything could trump becoming an author, least of all a screenwriter.

Desperate to write anything after years of being held back, I agreed to take an online course. Introduction to Screenwriting for Short Films class awakened my dormant writing talent. There I wrote an adaption of Edgar Lee Masters's poem, "Amanda Barker."

Having never thought of screenwriting as a career choice—for me at least—brought on the most unexpected and yet, very satisfying part of my writing career. Not to mention the driving force to finally work toward my life-long dream of earning my BFA, MFA in Creative Writing.

Desire awakens.

The flood gates opened and an unrealized ambition flowed through me like a live current. I was unable to stop the creativity that poured out of me. This time, I let nothing hold me back from writing. Life's obstacles would have to sit this one out, because my creative talent and desire to find my purpose in life could not be silenced, guilted into constraining, or forcefully contained.

The hand that rocked the cradle now bangs out more than just fictional prose until 2 a.m. Now I'm pulling all-nighters as a freshman at Full Sail University, writing spec scripts among other writing mediums, and I couldn't be more creatively fulfilled. It's true what they say:

"Finding one's purpose is one of life's greatest gifts."
